On the Tenements, Tales, and Tastes Guided Tour, you get a taste of the multicultural history as you sample iconic New York treats and take in heartwarming stories about the folks who live there. So, let a local guide take you to some of their favorite stops around the Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Little Italy and experience stories and recipes handed down by New York’s early settlers!

First, you’ll meet your guide at City Hall, and from there, hit the streets to get in touch with the tasty culture of NYC! Taking on the Lower East Side means visiting 100-year old bakeries, churches, and markets. You’ll also marvel at Jewish shops and synagogues, visit community gardens in the heart of NYC’s Latinx communities, and visit cultural sites like the African Burial Ground. You’ll also wander around the streets of Little Italy and Chinatown and, of course, get a taste of dumplings, pretzels, cheeses, and other dishes of international origins. From each dish and each story, you’ll learn more about the communities that built New York in such a fun and tasty way!
